  • The Great Escape...

    Posted: 05:17, June 14, 2008

This is so amazing. Just when I thought that I knew something....I find that I don't. This link comes from a dear family friend and it's about The Great Escape that happened in WWII. You may remember the Steve McQueen movie The Great Escape.....well, like me. you may not have known this.
As you go through the animation click on the numbers for the information.....I guarantee you'll love this!!

Wow...that is simply amazing. I wonder if this prison was also the inspiration for Stalag 17.

    I was referring to the movie...Stalag 17

    Wiki answered my question, though.

Yes, I knew about this story. There's been a book available for years that told the real story.

By the way, The Great Escape and Stalag 17 were both together the inspiration for Hogan's Heroes.

Wow, how scary that must have been. I couldn't imagine living through something like that. I don't know if I would have the guts to try to escape.

It's one of the only two duties you have if you're captured. Don't talk, and escape. It's listed in the field manuals as something you will do your utmost to do for all 4 services and the coast guard.

If anyone is interested, the book to read is "The Great Escape" by Paul Brickhill. It was originally written years ago, but it's still in print.

Check out A man called Jones

There's some interesting stuff about the real escape as well as the making of the movie.
