  • 72 Virgins?

    Posted: 11:11, February 28, 2009

I just couldn't resist. I still don't get the 72 virgins thing.....probably never will. But I'm relatively certain that there's no such thing, ya know?

What with all this stimulus package talk, and the state of the economy, bank bail outs, the auto makers and their woes and perils, we don't hear too much about how we're doing on the Islmo-fascism front. Except of course that President Obama proclaims that the war in Iraq is over and we'll begin withdrawing troops from there, with the exception of 50,000 troops to remain in supporting roles. I'm actually all for it....it is indeed about time. But we should keep in mind that a large portion of the troops leaving Iraq will be assigned to Afghanistan to deal with the resurgence of the Taliban, and of course continue in the search efforts to find Osama bin-Laden. Yep....the ever elusive bin-Laden. You ever wonder what with all of the technology we have, and the most elite of the elite Marines and soldiers as well, why we haven't either caught or killed that murdering, 72 virgin loving son-of-a-bitch?

Anyway.....I guess it's no surprise that Barack Obama is being treated as though he's the Messiah. I mean, we've got people raving about his approval ratings right now, and to be sure, his ratings are up there. But I don't think most American's fully understand just what we're getting into with this so-called "stimulus package." The deficit has now jumped to almost 4 trillion dollars! I can't even count that high! And it's the largest deficit ever for an incoming president. Understandably he did inherit a good portion from the outgoing President Bush, but adding to it by almost 2 trillion dollars just doesn't seem like good business sense.

Obama claims that he's not going to raise taxes on the middle class, and that he'll only tax those that make over $250,000, bringing their tax bracket into the 40% range, and that will somehow make a big difference. He's talking about raising taxes on small business owners that make over that amount, small business owners that are trying to flourish and hire more people. He's talking about raising taxes on those who are also consumers, like us. You know....things like gas, food, clothing, they also have mortgages and car payments, like most of the rest of us. But in reality, this won't even begin to put a small dent in this astronomical deficit. Therefore.....taxes will have to be raised in all of the areas that we struggle with today. And when that happens you can bet that the $250,000 earners will spend less, hesitate to buy homes and cars, and that certainly won't help the economy.

Alright, the claim is that Obama will not raise our taxes. So lets say that he actually doesn't raise our personal Federal taxes, leaving our paychecks alone. Where else is he going to get the money to draw down on this deficit? Of course.....our daily needs! And it's all well and good to pull back on, and or close some of the the government programs that are failing or don't work. But those will only be replaced by newer, bigger, and even more draining programs. It's the liberal way.....bigger government, and tax and spend. There was supposed to be a change in Washington but it's not happening. As much as I wanted to give this guy a chance, it's pretty hard right now; there's a lot of reading between the lines when you consider this package that he's really trying to push on us. It's hard to read between lines when you're so distracted with the Messiah.

Well....I do hope that folks will be happy with their 8 to 13 dollar tax cuts. Oh I suppose some will get a little bit more, but not much. I think that we're coming into an era where we'll be throwing money at anything that doesn't work, or is failing, or when someone goes begging for it. Government will call it the solution. But in the famous words of Ronald Reagan....."there are those that believe government is the solution, government is the problem."

I don't know beens about politics. I can only make judgements based on how things are effecting my life at the moment...Since Obama has taken office....My husband has been called back to work and I have a new job. I recieved a small rebate from my taxes and I have not lost my house....He can't be doing too bad.

Welcome to my world. The governor of my state rambled on about not raising taxes. He's stuck to his guns on that one. However, roads are falling apart, fees for a number of things are going up, jobs are being lost, local taxes are going up to make up the difference for what the state cut, schools are dreadfully underfunded, more people are losing their health care benefits - the list goes on and on. My governor is a republican, by the way.

He's just dumped the taxation on the locals to deal with so he can say "I didn't raise taxes". It's ridiculous!

DeeJay, our whole state is messed up...I wonder if we will ever get a decision on our senators. I'm so sick of Coleman trying his desperate attempts to keep getting the votes recounted....I wonder who is going to get stuck with that bill!

    Are ya'll in Minnesota?

Deej.....These governors and mayors are just waiting for this stimulus package to be signed into law so that they can get the funding for infrastructure projects. Most states have gotten to the point to where they don't really have the funding for such projects, ergo, they would have to raise taxes. The funding for the infrastructure is one of the items that I agree with in this package.

If you are in Minnesota please don't let Al Franken get into that senate seat! He might have been a good comedian whan he was on SNL, but he's not a politician. He's completely wrong for any kind of political place.
Plus.....he's got some serious skeletons hanging in his closet. I mean don't we all, but his would have a profound affect in the political arena.

Our other choice isn't much better....I think our state would be better off if they just got rid of both of them!

Yep! We are both Minnesota snow bunnies!

Really? Where did you hear that? Are you making that up or can you point to something that specifically shows he intends to raise taxes on food and clothing? I've Googled it and find absolutely nothing that supports what you are claiming.

I'm okay with raising taxes on gas. The higher the price is the more quickly we'll be incentivized to conserve and develop alternative energy sources.

BTW, the top tax bracket will be under 40% and it's merely a roll-back of tax CUTS that Bush gave the wealthy, not a tax increase. There's a difference. I'm amazed by how many people in the middle class and below are so juiced up to give rich people tax breaks. If you give a person a $1000 tax break, who is more likely to go out and spend it immediately and put it back into the US economy? The rich person or the not-rich person?

...when that happens you can bet that the $250,000 earners will spend less, hesitate to buy homes and cars, and that certainly won't help the economy.

Actually, during the Clinton administration when those taxes were at the level they are about to return to, people in the upper income brackets thrived and the economy was going like gangbusters. I don't know what makes you think rich people with lots of disposable income are going to quit spending. That makes no sense.

He's talking about raising taxes on small business owners that make over that amount, small business owners that are trying to flourish and hire more people.

Just so we're clear, that represents less than 2% of small business owners. It's a pretty insignificant amount as it relates to job-creating small businesses.

Where else is he going to get the money to draw down on this deficit? Of course.....our daily needs!

Awesome! You just totally made that up!

P.S. Al Franken is following in the footsteps of the most-awesome Paul Wellstone and I can not WAIT until he takes his oath of office. He's going to be a terrific progressive liberal leader, just like the man who mentored him.

One more thing: do you realize that the higher tax rate is only on the income earned that's OVER $250,000 per year? I didn't think you did but it's true.

I guess I don't see how Franken's past will cause problems for him as a senator. Like you said, we all have skeletons in our closets. It's the person "now" that was elected. I am willing to give him a chance. I don't see how he could be any worse than Coleman.
